  FALL MEMBER SHOW at REIF PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

  The Fall Member Show is September 14 to November 6, 2026 at the Reif Performing Arts Center, 720 NW Conifer Drive in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and will be administered by MacRostie Art Center staff.

  Closing Reception: November 6, 2026 - 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Reif Performing Arts Center.

  The theme and title of the show is:

  Nature and Nurture: The Boreal Speaks

  Step 1:  Registration (open to members of the North Shore Artist League) is due no later than Sunday, August 9, 2026.  To indicate your intent to participate, register on the League website available by clicking the RSVP button on the announcement email.  You do not need to know specifics on your items at this time.  Enter up to 2 pieces with size estimate so we can allocate space. Be sure to click “save” after entering your registration.  You will receive a confirmation.   (If you do not receive an immediate confirmation, reenter or request help from email klweinberg@gmail.com.)  

  Note:  Prioritize your work when you register as the Show Committee may make decisions on the number of pieces based on space available.

  Note:  Members must be in active status with dues paid  both at time of registering as well as during the show.  Be sure to check your registration dates to verify that you are current and an active member.

  Step 2:  Promotion - (Optional) By Wednesday, August 12, 2026, you may submit a photo of one of your submission pieces reflecting the theme of the show.  MacRostie and the show team will make final decisions on promotional piece(s).  If you have hi-resolution photo(s) submit to Sue Rauschenfels at srauschenfels@live.com. 

  Step 3:  Agreements/Contract - By Mid August, an email from the committee will be sent with a link to complete the Artist-Gallery Agreement/Contract (which will include the title card request information) and the W-9 form for any sales. Due date will be in that email.  90% of the pieces must be for sale.  MacRostie/Reif commission rate is 40%, 60% to the artist so be sure to consider this when pricing your work.

  Preparation of Art:  2D work must be framed or gallery wrap with finished edges and wired ready to hang.  Wired means no alligator clips.  For 3D work there are 4 smaller display cases available, so somewhat limited.  If other fixtures are needed, please plan to provide for your work.

  DROP OFF DATES:  Thursday, September 3, 2026, or earlier, Note hours:  10:00 am to 5:00 pm weekdays, or 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturdays, drop off art at the MacRostie Art Center, 405 NW 1st Avenue, Grand Rapids, Minnesota.  Remote participants must make arrangements to have their work dropped off.  If you must ship by UPS, you may make arrangements direct with Ashley at the MacRostie by email ashley@macrostieartcenter.org. You will also need to make arrangements for return pre-paid shipping or pick up.

  PICK UP DATE:  Friday, November 6, 2026 immediately following the closing reception.  You will need to make arrangements for your art to be taken by another member or with the MacRostie to be pre-paid shipped to you if you are unable to attend the reception.  You may also contact and coordinate with the MacRostie to pick your artwork up shortly after November 6th.

  Exciting New Opportunity: Introducing the Supporting Partner Collaborative!

  Dear NSAL Members,

  We are thrilled to announce a brand-new initiative designed to bring original, regional art directly into our local business community while creating new, sustainable revenue streams for our independent artists and the League. Welcome to the Supporting Partner Collaborative!

  This program transforms local business spaces into high-visibility "Artistic Anchors," showcasing the incredible talent within our membership. We are incredibly proud to launch our very first-phase partnership right in Grand Marais with Red Pine Realty.

  We are currently booking spots for our upcoming 12-month exhibition cycle on a first-come, first-served basis. To give as many members as possible a chance to shine in the spotlight, artists can participate as a featured creator once every 24 months.

  How to Register:

  Review the community agreement below and choose an available time slot in the calendar.

  Exhibiting Artist Guidelines & Community Agreement

  Because we are working closely with local business hosts who generously share their space with us, we have put together these friendly guidelines to ensure everything runs smoothly, professionally, and beautifully for everyone involved. By registering for a rotation spot on the website, you agree to the following parameters:

  1. Bringing Your Work Online & Mediums

  • Art in Any Medium: We warmly welcome our members’ diverse creative work, including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, mixed media, fiber art, framed literary art, glass, ceramics, wood, and sculpture. Original works and certified fine art reproductions are welcome.

  • Setup Styles for Space Planning: For planning and rotation setup, our spaces accommodate two primary presentation formats:

    • Wall-Displayed Artwork: Work designed or prepared to hang securely on a wall.

    • Surface & Mantle Display Artwork: Work that requires a shelf, tabletop, fireplace mantle, pedestal, or other surface support.

  • A Shared Digital Display: To help your artwork reach the widest audience possible, any piece physically displayed in a partner space needs to simultaneously be listed as an active, purchasable item on our shared NSAL website storefront.

  • Managing Your Personal Inventory: It is completely customary and expected that you will want to temporarily pause, disable, or hide these specific exhibition pieces on your personal website or private sales platforms for the duration of the show. This prevents accidental double-sales while ensuring the artwork remains safely available to the public.

  • Tracking Unique Pieces: Since your original creation, mixed media piece, limited-edition print, or 3D/surface artwork is unique or restricted in quantity, its online inventory quantity on the NSAL storefront will be set strictly to one (1) for the duration of its featured display. This lets our website automatically handle marking it as "Sold" the moment someone falls in love with it.

  2. Sales & Supporting the League

  • Our Central Storefront: To keep things simple and unified, all purchases—whether a visitor scans the QR code on-site or finds your work online—are processed directly through the North Shore Artists League website platform. To keep the system working fairly for everyone, sales for this program cannot be run through an artist's personal website or private payment system.

  • Nurturing Our Community: Every sale made through this collaboration includes a 10% contribution that stays with the League to help fund our long-term digital tools, marketing, and other expenses. The remaining 90% goes directly to you, distributed on our regular artist payout schedule.  Sales tax is calculated and paid by the buyer at check out.  NSAL acts as the gallery and handles the Minnesota sales tax with the State.

  3. Caring for Our Hosts

  • A "No-Touch" Courtesy for Staff: Our business hosts are wonderful partners, but their staff are busy running their own daily operations. To respect their time, host staff cannot handle artwork, answer questions about pricing, or process payments.

  • The Artist Connection: Think of yourself as the direct contact for your exhibit. If a buyer or the host has an inquiry or needs assistance with a piece, they will connect directly with you so you can share your personal expertise.

  4. Rotation & Shared Opportunities

  • Exhibition Cycle & Seasonal Rotations: The 12-month exhibition cycle at Red Pine Realty follows a seasonal structure to best serve our artists and accommodate local business patterns:

    • December through April (Joint Winter Exhibition): 
      The period from December through April has been designated as a joint exhibition opportunity.  Participating artists will have their work on display for this entire duration. Depending on signup numbers, this exhibition will accommodate up to seven (7) wall-displayed artists and approximately two to three (2–3) surface-display artists utilizing the venue's available display zones, shelves, and fireplace mantles.

    • May through November (Monthly Rotations): The schedule operates on a strict month-to-month rotation featuring wall-displayed work and, where space permits, complementary surface-displayed pieces. (Visual reference photos of sample wall zones and mantle setups are provided on this page to help you judge if your work fits the venue layout).

  • Lending a Helping Hand: Art and life can be unpredictable! In rare moments where the next artist in line faces an unexpected emergency, we might kindly ask you to leave your work on display for a second month to keep the walls vibrant and welcoming if possible.

  • Waitlist:  A wait-list is built into the registration process in the event the original registered artist is unable to participate.
    

  • Fairness in the Rotation: To make sure everyone gets a turn in the spotlight, artists can generally participate as a featured creator once every 24 months (though we may adjust this timeline depending on total member interest and demand).

  5. Keeping Our Presentation Beautiful & Professional Standards

  • Presentation & Display Standards: All artwork must arrive complete, securely constructed, and ready for immediate display. Presentation should suit the work’s medium and artistic intent while providing a clean, finished appearance appropriate to the venue.

    • Wall-Displayed Artwork: Framing is welcome where appropriate but is not required for every work. Works on paper, textiles, gallery-wrapped canvases, and dimensional wall pieces may use framing or another secure presentation method suited to the artwork. Any exposed edges and visible surfaces should be intentionally finished.

    • Surface & Mantle Display Artwork: Work displayed on a tabletop, shelf, mantle, or pedestal must be completely stable, secure, and finished on all visible surfaces. Please identify any supports, protective enclosures, or special installation needs in advance so we can coordinate arrangements appropriate to the venue.

  • A Unified Aesthetic: To create a cohesive, high-end gallery feel that honors the professional quality of our members' work, all artwork signage will follow a standardized NSAL visual template provided by the League. We ask that you avoid using hand-written tags or personal label designs.

  • Sharing Your Story (Optional): You know your work best! If you like to pair your imagery with words, we invite you to provide a brief, engaging story or artist note about the intent behind your piece to include on the placard. Of course, if you prefer to let the visual art speak entirely for itself, sharing a written narrative is completely optional.

  • Safe Installation & Protection of the Venue: All artwork must be compatible with the venue’s approved display methods. For wall displays, artists must use the designated, venue-approved hanging hardware and non-damaging methods to ensure walls remain pristine while displaying your art safely and securely.

  6. Handling Sales & Shipping

  • When a Piece Goes Home Immediately: If a local visitor buys your work on-site and carries it home that day, after being notified of the sale via a communication from the website online store, you will smoothly bring in your pre-arranged "on-deck" artwork so the display stays full and inviting.

  • When a Piece Needs to be Shipped: For out-of-town guests or larger artworks, buyers will have a shipping option at checkout. If a piece needs to be shipped, you will safely retrieve it from the wall or display, wrap it beautifully, and handle the shipping and insurance logistics within our agreed-upon neighborhood timeline.

  Are you an artist who finds it difficult to attend in-persoon meetings?  The Remote Art Pod is here to keep you connected with the League - no matter where you are.  The Remote Pod meets on Zoom.  The interest and participation of at least 5 artists is needed to have a Remote Pod.  The Zoom Remote option is self-facilitated for discussion of all things art and is available to artists and guests.  Note:  There will not be a 100 Day Commitment project facilitated by RAP this year.  

  • Perhaps you've moved but still are inspired by the North Shore and want to stay involved.
  • Perhaps drive time or weather conditions make travel a challenge.
  • Perhaps you're homebound for other reasonos.
  • Or perhaps you simply prefer the flexibility of remote meetings

  Whatever the reason, RAP welcomes you via Zoom - whether you attend monthly or intermittently.
