The Highlands, an area of rugged topography along the North Shore of Lake Superior is comprised of rocky cliffs, cobblestone beaches, forested hills and ridges through which scenic rivers and waterfalls descend as the flow to Lake Superior. Spring is a time of major transition in Minnesota. Snowstorms are common early in the spring, but by late-spring temperatures begin to moderate and rain showers and thunderstorms replace winter precipitation.
