Short Artist Statement

Art blending realism & whimsy to capture the lifelike gaze & playful spirit of North Shore wildlife.

Extended Artist Statement

Rooted in the mist and woods of Duluth, my art explores the incredible biodiversity of the North Shore through a lens of both realism and play. I focus deeply on the eyes of my subjects, using acrylic layers to create a lifelike intensity. My goal is to evoke a "shared presence," making you feel as though the creature is looking right back at you. However, I also believe in the power of a smile. By occasionally adding whimsical accessories—like a distinguished bow tie on a bear—I bridge the gap between the natural world and imagination. This process stems from a deep respect for our northern landscape, ultimately aiming to leave you with a renewed sense of awe for our precious world.
