Artist Statement

Margie states that painting is exercising her spiritual self and her definition of that is that it is a place to play, experiment and take risks.

Her love and experience of drawing and painting has been lifelong. She is basically self-taught and has taken various workshops and classes at the college and community levels.

Viewers are drawn to her work by her masterful use of color, strong composition and whimsical perspectives of her subject matter. Her inspiration comes from light, shadows, natural arrangement, patterns of nature and her interpretation of interior and exterior experiences. Painting is a dance and a dialogue with the substrate and paint. She will work out the foundational composition and then intuitive decision-making takes over which for her, allows more freedom than painting objectively does. She does not have a predetermined idea of what the painting will be in the end and enjoys that element of surprise.

Margie maintains juried membership in two watercolor societies along with being part of several other art organizations. She has received a number of awards.
