Short Artist Statement
As an oil painter, my brush transforms canvas into a visual story, preserving a memory.
Extended Artist Statement
James Ellis, Painter: "Visiting national and state parks, exploring forests and mountain ranges or lingering along lakes, rivers or waterfalls listening to the water cascading over rocks or lapping at the shoreline are all memorable experiences. Nature invokes emotion, awakens the senses and has a positive impact on our physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Unfortunately for most of us who spend time in scenic spots and quiet places it is only for a short time. Everyday I look at my work, much of which is created from experiences on the North Shore of Lake Superior, and I am returned to that spot; the waterfall, the lake, the mountain, the forest or the natural formation that caused me to pause. It is my sincere hope that my art may occupy a space in your home for friends, family and you to linger and remember very special places.”
