My Process (5)

Jewelry casting begins by carving a facsimile of the finished piece out of jewelry wax. The wax piece is then invested in a cylinder of heat resistant plaster of Paris-like material to make the first mold. The cylinder is next placed in a kiln to burn out the wax leaving a negative space where molten silver will be added. Now into a centrifuge a hot cylinder is placed in a cradle next to a crucible of molten silver, where it is spun into the mold. Finally the mold is cooled in water and the cast piece is removed. File, sand, polish.
